Strong Generic Vanishing and a Higher Dimensional Castelnuovo-de Franchis Inequality

چکیده
(1) pg(X) < 2q(X)− 3 admits a fibration (i.e. a surjective morphism with connected fibres) onto a smooth curve of genus at least 2 (cf. also the modern age references [BPV], Proposition 4.2 and [Be1], C.8). This basic result in surface theory concerns in fact surfaces whose Albanese map is generically finite: otherwise the Albanese map of X automatically provides a fibration onto a smooth curve of genus at least 2, unless q(X) ≤ 1 when 2q(X)− 3 < 0. Inequality (1) can be restated as χ(ωX) < q(X)− 2. The purpose of this paper is to show that, in this form, the inequality of Castelnuovo and de Franchis has the following natural generalization in arbitrary dimension:

Generic Vanishing and Minimal Cohomology Classes on Abelian Varieties
This paper is concerned with a relationship between the existence of subvarieties of principally polarized abelian varieties (ppav’s) having minimal cohomology class and the (generic) vanishing of certain sheaf cohomology, based on the Generic Vanishing criterion studied in [PP3]. This is in analogy with the well-known equivalence between a subvariety in projective space being of minimal degree...
متن کاملCastelnuovo-mumford Regularity: Examples of Curves and Surfaces
The behaviour of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity under “geometric” transformations is not well understood. In this paper we are concerned with examples which will shed some light on certain questions concerning this behaviour. One simple question which was open (see e.g. [R]) is: May the regularity increase if we pass to the radical or remove embedded primes? By examples, we show that this happe...
متن کاملGeneric Projection Methods and Castelnuovo Regularity of Projective Varieties
For a reduced, irreducible projective variety X of degree d and codimension e in P the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity regX is defined as the least k such that X is k-regular, i.e. H(P , IX(k− i)) = 0 for i ≥ 1, where IX ⊂ OPN is the sheaf of ideals of X. There is a long standing conjecture about k-regularity (see [EG]): regX ≤ d−e+1. Generic projection methods proved to be effective for the stu...
متن کاملOn Eigenvalues of Random Complexes
We consider higher-dimensional generalizations of the normalized Laplacian and the adjacency matrix of graphs and study their eigenvalues for the Linial–Meshulam model X(n, p) of random k-dimensional simplicial complexes on n vertices. We show that for p = Ω(log n/n), the eigenvalues of each of the matrices are a.a.s. concentrated around two values. The main tool, which goes back to the work of...
متن کاملFano’s inequality is a mistake
for every i. One can remark that for the first time, these inequalities were indicated by Margherita Piazzola-Beloch in [1]. She was a pupil of G. Castelnuovo, her paper presents the text of her thesis , G. Castelnuovo was the adviser of the thesis. Thus all (including G. Fano ) the subsequent authors of the variants or generalizations of the Fano inequality are out of the historical responsibi...
